Carlson Super Omega-3 Fish Oils Description

100% Norwegian Quality Oil.

What are Omega-3 Fatty Acids?

Omega-3 fatty acids are important and essential nutrients for our health. They are composed of long chain carbons, which are polyunsaturated’ they have many double bonds. The term omega-3, or n-3, refers to the locations of the first double bond on the third carbon. Alpha-Linolenic Acid (ALA), Eicosapentaenoic Acid (EPA) and Docosahexaenoic Acid (DHA) are recognized as important and/or essential omega-3′s in human nutrition and physiology.

How Are Omega-3 Oils Unique?

Because of their unique structure, omega-3′s have important and unique functions in our bodies EPA and DHA have a longer structure and contain more double bonds than ALA. Both, EPA and DHA, are involved in healthy cardiovascular systems, immune processes, and help support the formation of healthy prostaglandins. DHA is a vital component of the retina, brain and neurons. Fish oils supply omega-3 fatty acids and are especially high in DHA and EPA. Some vegetable oils contain ALA, but do not contain DHA or EPA.

Schiff Knock-Out Melatonin with Theanine and Valerian Description

Supports Relaxation and Normal Sleep Patterns.
New, easier-to-swallow tablets. Schiff® Knock Out® is a combination of Melatonin, Valerian and Theanine.

Melatonin is a metabolic hormone made in the pineal gland, retina, and intestines. Melatonin is released into the blood stream by the pineal gland (which resides in the brain) to set your body’s biological clock and initiate sleep. Darkness stimulates the pineal gland and causes it to produce more melatonin. Daylight stops your body’s production of melatonin. Melatonin helps to promote healthy sleep patterns. Melatonin also protects cells from free radical damage, and directs the release of growth and sex hormones.

Theanine is believed to be the primary component of green tea that provides a relaxing effect. Theanine is an amino acid derivative of glutamine. Oral doses of 50 and 200 mg of theanine given to healthy volunteers promoted alpha brain wave production. Alpha waves are associated with a calm mental state. Theanine helps to induce a state of calm relaxation.

Valerian is known for its calming effects, and also used as a sleep aid. GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid) is the major inhibitory neurotransmitter (message sender) in the brain. GABA plays a role in regulating sleep-wake cycles, and is involved in initiation of sleep. Melatonin, theanine and valerian extracts all interact with the GABA receptor.
